I started exploring my family history in 2005. One of the things I found most fascinating was learning about the places my family came from, including the specific homes, villages, towns and townships that emerged from the census data.
I knew I wanted to visit and explore as many of these places as I could, to get a real sense of where my family, where I, had “come from”.
This blog records that journey.
There are 5 main places on my list:
- The Isle of Skye
- Fife
- The Isle of Lewis
- South West England
- Ireland
Some places – including many on Skye – I have been to before, and am writing up here as part of the history and part of the journey. Others – like the villages in Cornwall – are still a distant dream at the moment… but I hope one day to visit them all.
